With the same brightness generated, Led needs less power and has longer life span. Can stand fast switching and generates less heat.

What is LED Light?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode.

How Led produce light?

By passing a low voltage current through a diode, one cans energies electrons within its composite substances.
When energized electrons release the energy and return back to the stable state, photons will be release, causing light to radiate into the surroundings.

Why Led light can save electrical energy and will not heat up the surrounding?

Led light can be produced at normal temperature because the electron can be energized just by low voltage DC current as it is. This light engages in cool burning and will not cause heat pollution in its surrounding.


* LED light is brighter.
The brightness LED produced is 80 to 90LM/W in 2009 and 90 to 100LM/W in 2010. The products that utilize these high brightness Led are in the market presently ( In theory it can reach 300 LM/W ).


The life span of the LED is 30 000 to 80 000 Hours.

It will reach 100 000 hours in near future.

The average life span at present is 40 000 hours. When lighted up for 10 hours per day, it will last for almost 11 years. Furthermore, unlike traditional bulbs which flash out abruptly, Led simply begin to dim near the end of their life. Let you have time to react.

In years 2011, in internet, the average life span of the Led is being claim to 50 000 hours.


The above 40 000 or 50 000 hours is refer to the Led light sources or the Led chips working at 24 degree Celsius and not refer to Led bulbs, Led tube, Led spot bulbs ....

Every Led lighting consists of 3 parts. They are
* Led chips( Led light sources).
* The Heat sink for the Led chip.
* Led Driver (The power supply).


There are many types of Led chips. Small one can have power of 0.16W per piece. When in operation it give the brightness of 6 LM. They are types of 1W per piece which give up 100LM brightness when bright up. In internet, I do read there are 50W per piece or more.

I am more interested in 1W Led chips and know its electrical property more.

Normally to bright up a 1W Led. It needs a current of 0.30 to 0.35 Amp and the voltage of 3.5 V across the 1W Led in the correct polarity.

The Led driver is the device that provide these condition.

The Amp. of the current go through the Led must be accurate to about 10%. Too much the current the Led will heat up very fast or burn off.

* Led driver.

There are two type of Led drivers; Contstant voltage Led driver and Constant Current Led driver. To apply Constant Current Led driver more conditions need to consider. The end result is to make Led light last longer.

* Heat Sink.

The main purpose of the heat sink is to dissipate heat that generated by the Led chip when it is lighted up. Almost all the heat sink do keep the temperature of the led lamp low enough to keep the Led chip alive. But not good enough for the high voltage Led driver.
